The National Institute for Economic Research (NIER) of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova has as its main objective the realization of fundamental and applied scientific research in the socio-economic and demographic field. Through scientific research and advanced studies, NIER contributes to the foundation of socioeconomic development strategies and programs, identifying the most suitable forms of promoting sustainable growth of the national economy, ensuring a decent standard of living and increasing the quality of life of the population. NIER develops macroeconomic and demographic forecasts, conducts monitoring and evaluation studies, sociological research, impact studies and other empirical research in the field of competence.

NIER provide scientific consultancy to decision-makers, to the private and associative environment based on research and complex analysis, by participating in various working groups created alongside the ministries, involvement as experts in the elaboration and development of policy documents, strategies, development programs socioeconomic at national and sectoral level, strategic plans and roadmaps, approval of national normative acts, etc.

NIER collaborators prepare highly qualified scientific staff through doctorates and postdoctorates, being part of the Doctoral School of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.
